Quantum FAQs

Please see below answers to commonly asked questions about Quantum and its software and services

What is Quantum's corporate and product history?

Quantum is a trading software development and advisory services company founded in June 2022, incorporated in Delaware. Quantum has offices in London and Connecticut. Quantum's initial product focus was concentrated on the development of a proprietary parent order trading definition language (SOFIA). Quantum has since rolled out a prototype and live trading capabilities in a select group of the most actively traded US markets. Quantum plans to rollout its platform to over 15 securities markets worldwide across different asset classes in 2024.

How does Quantum's software work?

Our trading software is series of modules implemented in a worldwide distributed and exchange collocated trading framework. This framework enables the dynamic and realtime generation and execution of parent order directives defined using Quantum's unique and proprietary trading definition language (SOFIA).

How does Quantum's approach benefit traders?

The implementation of Quantum's software and trading framework greatly improves trading performance by providing realtime visibility of local market price and volume conditions while enabling users to intelligently and dynamically interact with the realtime market thereby mitigating opportunity cost. Quantum's approach can be applied to any electronically traded securities market across geographies and asset classes.

What is SOFIA?

SOFIA is a proprietary and easy-to-use domain specific trading definition language (DSL) developed by Quantum. SOFIA allows the user to define trade and risk parameters at a level of intelligence that closely corresponds to their trading and risk management thought processes. Users generate and transmit parent order directives defined in SOFIA to an exchange collocated server which subsequently schedules and generates the child orders in accordance with each exchange's native order parameters.

SOFIA is a trading DSL specifically designed to closely correspond to commonly used natural language trading instructions.

How can a user generate parent orders defined in SOFIA?

Parent order directives defined in SOFIA can be generated in one of three ways: (1) programmatically by the user's internal trading system and transmitted via Fix to Quantum's order management system; (2) manually via a Quantum-provided customizable GUI widget (Java-based) for installation in the user's internal trading system; or (3) by utilizing the QuantumTrade web delivered trading platform. In all cases the user will be able to dynamically and in realtime create, monitor and manage their parent order directives and the derived child orders natively generated at the exchange level.

What is QuantumTrade?

QuantumTrade is Quantum's proprietary web delivered trading platform accessed via the Quantum's Web Portal. QuantumTrade combines the full functionality of a typical multi-asset class multi-market realtime trading platform with the proprietary ability to dynamically generate and manage intelligent parent order trading directives defined in SOFIA. QuantumTrade leverages the globally distributed  trading framework developed by Quantum so users have the benefit of realtime access to exchange collocated servers worldwide. Utilizing QuantumTrade eliminates the need for users to implement any software or hardware within their own environments.

What other services does Quantum offer?

Quantum offers trading solutions tailored for each user's needs including design and implementation of infrastructure solutions (e.g. user dedicated exchange collocated server implementations), trading optimization and best execution solutions, customized development of optimal parent order trading directives defined in SOFIA. Quantum also offers users the ability to leverage its own distributed exchange collocated node servers thereby eliminating the need for users to implement and manage their own costly infrastructure.

How can Quantum's solutions leverage a user's existing exchange collocated infrastructure?

Whether or not a user has in place their own exchange collocated infrastructure, Quantum's software can be easily customized and integrated within the user's trading framework to enable the generation and management of intelligent parent order trading directives defined in SOFIA. By implementing Quantum's revolutionary software, user can further enhance their trading performance beyond their current experience notwithstanding their existing collocated infrastructure.

How does Quantum protect user trading information?

Quantum's distributed exchange collocated node servers do not store any user information nor do they store any order or execution information regarding any user generated parent order trading directives (defined in SOFIA). QuantumTrade's order management system only stores high-level user data such as user profile information and parent order directive generic template information. No user proprietary trading information is stored in QuantumTrade.

How does Quantum charge for its software and services?

Quantum has an annual fixed price subscription fee model for all software licensed by the user. Service contract durations can be negotiated on a case-by-case basis and typically range from 6 months to 3 years. For customized services, including development of user specified parent order directives and design and implementation of dedicated exchange collocated infrastructure, Quantum charges a services fee defined on a project basis in accordance with the scope and scale of the user's requirements.
